Just another day in my life
My mum is in Niagara Falls, leaving Ben and I alone last night.
It was quite late, and we were watching a movie together (uncharacteristic for us, we can usually be found at opposite ends of the house, in an effort to avoid the other.) I began to hear a banging from the upstairs, quite comparable to the noise Sally creates when she jumps on to and off of my mother’s bed. I did not bat an eyelash, as this is a completely ordinary sound in our household. I began to take notice, however, when the clanking continued.
‘Do you hear that noise?’ I questioned Ben, as I began to grow anxious. Ben indicated that he did, and displayed his concern. We opted to venture upstairs and check on Sally, as she never creates such a royal ruckus.
‘Uh.. Tori?’ Ben called from the hallway.
‘What?’ I grunted, pausing the movie.
I was aghast to find Ben pointing to Sally, sleeping peacefully by the front door, Seamus a mere stone’s throw away. Both dogs were on the main level. Ben and I looked at each other, apprehension and sheer worry spread across our pale faces instantaneously.
‘I’m going up,’ I finally uttered, ‘you with me?’
Ben nodded. We began to make our way upstairs, but not before Ben grabbed a massive wooden pole, used to lock our back door, and I a frying pan. We were armed, ready for action.
‘WHOEVER IS UP HERE HAD BETTER BE PREPARED FOR A GRADE A ASS BEATING!’ Ben called, attempting to intimidate any intruder.
We were at last upstairs, seeking refuge behind our means of self defence, never more than an arm’s reach of one another.
We thoroughly searched every room, Ben checking even the linen closet, but failed to find an intruder of any sort. Our cats were accounted for, though they were in a dead state of sleep on my bed. Eventually coming to terms with our defeat, Ben and I returned downstairs and finished watching Juno.
The noises immediately halted proceeding our venture upstairs. We are still unable to determine the cause.

Maybe the house settling? Hard? =P
That is really scary though, I’m glad Ben was there too.
(Juno is a good movie!)

I bet it was the cats. It’s amazing what they can sound like upstairs. Mimi sounds like a regular person running upstairs when she does her zoomies.
